Frequently Asked Questions

What is Legionella and why does it need to be controlled?
Legionella is a bacterium found naturally in rivers, lakes and mains water in low, harmless amounts. In poorly managed man-made water systems operating at temperatures between 20–45°C, it can multiply to dangerous levels and cause Legionnaires' disease — a potentially fatal form of pneumonia spread through inhaled water droplets. Controlling it is a legal duty for UK employers and building owners.
Is my business legally required to carry out a Legionella Risk Assessment
Yes. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and COSHH regulations, employers and those in control of premises have a statutory duty to assess and manage the risk from legionella. Guidance is set out in the Approved Code of Practice L8 and HSG 274 (Parts 1, 2 & 3).
How do I make sure my business is Legionella-compliant?
You'll need an up-to-date risk assessment, a written scheme defining how the risk is managed, and a site logbook for monitoring and maintenance activities. Enviroliance delivers all three as part of our standard service.
Are you LCA accredited?
Yes. Enviroliance is a member of the Legionella Control Association, the UK industry body that certifies companies delivering legionella management services in line with its Code of Conduct and Service Provider Commitments.
Do you offer Legionella awareness training?
Yes — we deliver LCA-certified half-day and full-day legionella awareness courses, led by senior team members with 25+ years of experience, covering medical aspects, water system management, sampling and analysis, and tank monitoring.
Do you work nationwide?
Yes. From our offices in Central Scotland, the Midlands and South Wales, we service organisations across the whole of the UK — including Edinburgh, Birmingham and Cardiff.
